Welcome back to another selection of rarities and curios from my record collection. A few of the gems to be found on this show
|
| that warrant a mention are Wayne Smith’s Megabyte. Released in 1986 Prince Jammy’s Computerized Dub album was entirely populated with instrumentals from Wayne Smiths album, Sleng Teng. Jammy was widely credited as producing the first completely digital rhythm on this album and thus paved the way for digital reggae and dancehall, as we know it. “I Think My Heart Is Telling On Me” by Evelyn Champagne King also warrants a mention. King age 16 was cleaning the floor of the washroom of Philadelphia International Records one night with her mother when producer T. Life overheard them singing. After signing her in 1976 it was decided that Evelyn King’s then nickname “Bubbles” should be upgraded to Champagne. Her first album shot her to the top of the game but Music Box, her second (and the album that this track is from) almost terminated her career. This however is the only track from the album that has lasted. With backing vocals by Luther Vandross & Jocelyn Brown…Enjoy. |
