My New roots mix is here. It always takes a while to amass enough new 7’s to make a worthwhile show. Well here it is. Brand new tunes from Jamaica land (or at least brand new to me). Watch out for

“Frenemies” from Karen Vibes straight out of Studio One NY. Not a new tune but damm …..such a killer. Follow this link to see K.Vibes showing out at some random live gig on her own territory (Brooklyn) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obnFpJqGsxg with a live hybrid version of Frenemies. Another track I need the need to mention is “Lonely Soldier” by Ambelique. Now I have battled with this track for a few years now. I still have never played it out for fear of being slated for dropping a cheesy cover. However Mike Williams’ anti Viet Nam classic on Atlantic 7″ from 1966 is surely complimented not taxed by this lovers offer. Ambelique is a massively talented vocalist with an incredible voice. Even his weakest cheesecore digital roots are secured by that incredible gospel voice. He can do shit like Lauren Hill. Check him out. Another underrated singjay is Jamaica’s answer to Sam Cooke, Little Kirk. “Spread Love” (1997) is the perfect Bobby Digital production complete with a sax dub on the B-side. Davis won a talent contest in 1981 and landed himself an informal deal with the Shocking Vibes label. He scored a Jamaican #1 aged 14 with “Ghetto People Broke” in 86. Last but not least I have just one more thing to say… Nitty Gritty - “Everything You Try” is one of my funeral tunes…just in case …….you know.
